Although not archery-related, it is important nonetheless. The Sharpe's series (books/TV) first gave me an interest in the Napoleonic Wars era of military history. I first watched all the shows years ago and then read all the novels by Bernard Cornwell. I was hooked. Later, I noticed that several of the actors were on FaceBook, so I sent friend requests and all of them accepted; they are all down-to-earth and approachable. It was from them that I first found out about the SCF, which is a charity founded by the actors of the Sharpe's TV series and is spearheaded by one of the main actors, Daragh O'Malley.

Many of the Sharpe's shows were filmed on location and, when filming in India, the actors saw the poverty and what many children have to do to survive. It broke the hearts of many and they decided to do something about it. Thus, the SCF was founded. Contributions go to help children around the world.

See more at Sharpe's Children Foundation

They had their launch about a week ago at Apsley House, the home of the Duke of Wellington. Here is a short clip of several of the actors singing the theme song of the series, "Over the Hills and Far Away"

Korean Horn Bow Industry Alert

The Korean horn bow industry is in trouble. Some time ago, I learned that the Korean government has banned the importation of waterbuffalo horn and sinew into the country. It was due to the problems with mad cow disease and hoof and mouth disease. However, as Korea does not have its own waterbuffalo and obtaining domestic backstrap sinew is very difficult and expensive, the prohibition effectively will put Korean horn bowyers out of business, once their supplies are exhausted. Traditional archers from around the world have been contacting the Korean consulates and embassies in their countries. However, the answer has been rather lock-step in that the ban will continue for the forseeable future.

Here is my original message:

Yesterday, my wife and I (along with her eldest sister and mother) traveled to Taejon.
