Topic: Owl feathers
Has anyone tried using owls feathers for fletching arrows? They are very soft and silent in flight. Just curious.

Probably not legal in the US, maybe unless they're not from American owls.
DEFINITELY not legal in U.S. .............. no birds of prey feathers! Stiffer feathers give better arrow flight anyway.
Around Ancient Olympia an ecological club ("Rommel"?) have freed hundreds of owls and hawks. They are everywhere and they don't fear men. We also have ducks and the bird who carries the babies, don't remember english name for it.
In the U.S., if animals/birds which are protected become a nuisance/endangerment then measurements are taken to rectify the problem by the proper state/federal wildlife authorities. This could be open hunting/trapping seasons (with guidelines and rules, which are lawfully required to be followed) or professional hunters to eradicate certain numbers. We also have laws prohibiting the release of non-native species. We have great hunting and fishing here because of our state and federal wildlife agencies.
