Topic: SMG Carbon Arrows

I will try out the brass-head and hunting arrows this weekend.  The brass-head arrows are definitely much head heavier than the hunting version that has screw-in bullet points.  Both are 33.5" in length when put side by side.

Re: SMG Carbon Arrows

I don't have a digital caliber.  The SMG arrows are quite thick for carbon shafts.  They are almost as thick as 2219 fatboys.

Re: SMG Carbon Arrows

Finally, here they are!  I also included two other arrows.  From bottom to top, we have:

SMG Hunting Arrows - good for 33" draw
SMG Target Arrows - good for 33" draw
Alibow Carbon Arrows - good for 33" draw
Easton 2219 Fatboy Arrows - good for 32" draw

Re: SMG Carbon Arrows

Do you know have trouble with the vanes? Those are vanes on the carbon shafts?

Ive always assumed that one must have feathers, but have never tried the vanes.

thanks,

Re: SMG Carbon Arrows

Korean carbons have vanes, which are low-profile and relatively soft.  If someone has correct form, the vanes will never contact one's bow hand, so it shouldn't be a problem in any case.

Re: SMG Carbon Arrows

Thomas,
I have yet to read your book, so pardon any foolish questions.

How will one's form prevent the arrow from hitting the hand. Honestly, if I did not have to fletch arrows anymore that would be just fine with me.

thanks you

Joseph

Joseph,

It really only works when one uses a thumb ring.  When using a thumb ring, the index finger of your draw hand will push the arrow into the bow, locking it in place; you can even cant upside down and the arrow won't fall off (hence, there is no need to have your bow hand in contact with the arrow).

Re: SMG Carbon Arrows

Thank you for clarifying that Thomas.
I do use the thumb ring and I do cant the bow, and understand that pressure is applied to the arrow to keep the arrow against the riser.

It has always been my understanding that the  arrow is supposed to lay on top of the hand, but based on what your saying not necessarily.

I will have to give this a try.

thank you

Joseph

Although the arrow will always be above your hand, it doesn't have to make contact, which is the important distinction.

Re: SMG Carbon Arrows

I have alibow carbon arrows, they are very good, are the SMG as good as alibow?

Re: SMG Carbon Arrows

I too have Alibow's arrows but they are inconsistent in spine.

Gabriel, if you were to get more arrows from Zhang Li,  only get the carbon shafts.

Warbow how did those SMG hunting arrows work for you and what weight of a bow were you using? From the sounds of other posts you seem to shoot a heavy bow, were the spines the right stiffness ? I'm looking at ordering some for my #55 & #60 bows.

Re: SMG Carbon Arrows

I haven't shot SMG hunting arrows.  The cutting was poorly done at the point end.  I will have to do more work to make the shaft fit the insert flush.
