Topic: Where can I buy a thumb ring online?

I'm new to Korean traditional archery but would like to learn how to shoot using a thumb ring. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find one online anywhere. I'm not much of a craftsman to make my own, and would rather buy one. I live in Quebec (Canada).

Would anyone know where I can get one? The only type I found online was the Chinese cylinder type (jade) ring which is not what I'm looking for. I would prefer the other type (long, shaped more like a curved triangle).

Thanks !

Here are some reference videos for you to consider:

You might consider making your own thumb ring:

Just FYI: The cylindrical thumb ring actually produce a cleaner release than the tear shaped one.   big_smile

First do one by yourself, wrapping a piece of leather around your thumb. With the time will have the right shape and perfect confort.

Later you can ask someone to make one for you. Don't buy online if is for practical use, need to be exactly precise.

Do they? I would have thought it's easier to pinch the soft skin of your inner thumb with those ?

I ended up finding one actually (after 1 hour of Google searches) , sold by 3Rivers Archery and I ordered one to fit my thumb. http://www.3riversarchery.com/Thumb+Rin … eitem.html

It's a little expensive for such a small piece of equipment, but since it's hand-made, I guess it's about right.

Also, for your info, the bow(s) I'm planning on shooting are sold on ebay by this store: http://stores.ebay.ca/HandMadeBow?_trksid=p4340.l2563 and the guy really sold a lot and has really good reviews !

Well I guess it's too late for that then... I already ordered one. If it doesn't fit well or I don't like it though, I may consider making my own... if I can manage it.

Welcome tweaks,
I hope you are not too disappointed, as Mattia has already said, they need to be very precise. Again, a leather ring is not only easy to make, it will also be much easier to use ( I only use leather ones)
I would advise you to try with a leather ring anyway, before giving a solid type a go.

Has anyone ever tried to make a thumb ring from antler ? I'm looking at trying to use a piece of either moose or elk....anyone tried this yet?

Re: Where can I buy a thumb ring online?

Thanks for the tip!   I made one myself and shooting it has been a blast.  Can be a little hard to take off if my thumbs swells from shooting but I managed to thin out some of the strapping to make it a bit easier.  After a couple of hour long sessions the thumb has toughened up satisfactorily to the point where the swelling is not much.  The photo really help me out I basically just copied what you had shown.

Re: Where can I buy a thumb ring online?

Hun,

Do you make your own thumb rings or buy them? What weight of bow do you shoot? I am thinking of trying one but I am just not too sure which route I should go. Have one made or order one.

Thanks

55# @ 32".
Started with a leather ring, tried one I made from horn and didn't like it. Used leather ever since.

I would advise against buying one online, the fit needs to be precise which requires trying it on. Have a go at making a leather one, it's all you need.

Thanks,

I am going to make one. I think the one I have is just a bit too small. I have wanted to try a leather one for a while now.

I just got a set of buffalo horn rings from my friend, 17 USD each. He could make rings in any given size  smile
PS: the right most one is my current ring made in Korea
