Topic: Drawing hand knuckle protection

Does anyone use protection on their drawing hand index finger knuckle?
I'm talking about something like this:

I see quite a lot of Korean archers using them, but not much information on how to make or where to buy one.
Does anyone know what they're called in Korean? I've so far been googling for them as '깍지손 보호대', thumbring-hand protector, but maybe there's a better term for them.

With blisters, torn skin and general soreness in that area (soft hands I suppose) I'm desperate for any ideas

보호대 is a commonly used term (and I've even seen a hangeulized form of English: 핸드 가드--"hand guard", although less common).

I used to use one many years ago; I bought it at a competition.  However, I haven't used one in years.

Looking around, there are some pages on people making their own, such as http://blog.naver.com/PostView.nhn?blog … 0169803579

I generally use a pair of leather gloves, especially when I shoot three-finger style.  In Wyoming, where I grew up, and now Oregon, there are very good quality deerskin riding gloves, but pretty much anywhere you should be able to find gardening or construction gloves.  You could even trim off the parts you didn't want.

An alternative would be Kaya's "thumb ring" glove (it has a specially reinforced thumb to use like a thumb ring).

A bit late... but gloves for Kyuudo (traditional Japanese archery) may be suitable. They are often made from deerskin with a hardened thumb. They may, or may not, be easier to find than Korean stuff... Most of the Koreans I know make their own.

I don't use the glove. Don't apply excessive twist pressure. Don't use brass nocking mark on string.

Kyudo's yukage doesn't work with korean style.
