Topic: YMG

Found it here http://www.koreanarchery.org/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=362

It is  http://www.goongdo.com/ and YMG stands for 연무궁 or Yeon Mu Gung, though that was pretty futile in google searches

Although the SMG horn bow is really appealing, I think I want a korean bow with longer ears that point forward more for a smoother draw and because I somehow think it looks better. I found the YMG bows seemed to be like this

Middle is YMG janggung, top and bottom are SMG horn/carbon bows. Top is Greyhamster's pic. Hard to tell if the ears are significantly longer...

Also found these stretches http://www.goongdo.com/archery/basic02.php

naah I got a long way to go before I deserve a new bow... tongue

Seeing measurements (string length and force-draw curves) would be nice though

Re: YMG

I'd like to extend Pedro's post to find out about an other Korean bow manufacturer called HMG and how their bows compare to YMG and SMG (as if I will ever get the chance to have any of them...).

Thumbs up

Re: YMG

HMG is 현무궁
Here, it looks just like the Nomad... cafe.daum.net/BaekDooArrow/6DNN/47?q=%C7%F6%B9%AB%B1%C3

Is that right... Hmmm. I'll ask Freddie  maybe they ARE the Nomad...  cool

Re: YMG

The ears look pretty nice on this SMG bamboo bow

From here

Maybe it's a shorter version...

I wonder what it's backed with.

Re: YMG

Already discussing your new bow, eh?

I can only speak for the SMG horn bow but it's a pretty amazing bow. Smooth and fast. There is some shock with ultra light arrows (Actually a gram or 2 under recommended weight) but it's more audible than sensible because the grip absorps it. A very nice bow. Fast too. Suitable for competitions, very suitable for 3d shoots and the likes in rough terrain. Just point and laugh at those silly people carrying around 72 inch longbows almost twice as long tongue
That said I do feel like it's very fragile but that's probably more in my head. Also I just came off a cheap fiberglass bow which was quite honestly expendable in my mind the second I bought it.

(Slightly off topic but my absolute dream bow would be a traditionally made magyar/hunnic/assyrian composite bow, preferably by Novotny from Saluki. But that's a dream to be shelved and cherished for another time tongue)

Thumbs up

Re: YMG

I just enquired about the SMG white laminated and was told it was fragile. SMG did not want to sell above 50# perhaps not wanting to jeopardise their good name?

Thumbs up

BajanBow on Etsy has a few Magyar horn bows for sale that are pretty affordable... not that much draw length, though.

Meh, my bow is fine. Though it'd be nice to have one with birch bark and a smoother draw. Don't really need one, though. I should just get stronger. At least I can actually draw and shoot it now, and hit the broad side of a barn, even if I can't control it as much as I wish.

Wonder if I'll ever make any horn bows. That would be cool.

Daydreaming of making sinew backed bamboo or compression pine Korean and Crimean Tatar shaped bows, currently my two favorite kinds. May start with nylon cable back simple D bows like Bhutanese. Hmm.

This post is interesting http://www.koreanarchery.org/punbb/view … pid=77#p77

I doubt YMG bows are that resistant at bad treatment unless they're light versions, though  tongue (don't try dry loosing one)

Re: YMG

저희 연무산업에서는 개량국긍 및 카분화살을 전문으로 생산하는 업체로 사원님들께 보다 좋은 제뭄을 공급할 수 있도록 최선을 다하고 있습니다.

that's one of the things that was in image form.. guess it isn't anything too informative.

I now wonder mostly on the difference between YMG and SMG bows, and why the pictures of the Hwarang I see look different from the YMG bows in goongdo.com. I want to get a 40# bow, since it'd be easier to get good form..

http://goongdo.com/archery/basic02.php - recommended exercises? #13 looks good for stretching training for the twisty thing required for good shoulder alignment with the Korean stance

If I had to pick two..

Hwarang are (currently) YMG bows.

Re: YMG

The ones on the website goongdo.com seem to have less curved and longer tips, though... and maybe more reflex

Oh sorry, I meant the YMG bows in goongdo.com
