Topic: Thomas Duvernay Kaya videos? & bow stringing

I recall seeing some videos by Thomas Duvernay about how to string the KTB, but I can't find them. Would like to see them.

I'm trying to find a more optimal easy way to string the bow applying the same amount of force to both limbs AND with no chance of twisting the limbs or tips..

So far I know of this:

I find that the bow wants to twist, still, with Ronald's method. And even though it's supposedly a common misconception that it bends the limbs unevenly, it seems to do so for me. Maybe it's only good for some bows.

The sitting crosslegged method... I find it very difficult to put the limb flush against my leg, they're at different angles so it sort of wants to twist. I don't know if that's clear enough. First I put the handle sort of under my knee, one limb on the tibia leg and another on the femur leg, and pull. Then I try to put the knee of the other limb on my other leg, but I can't do that very nicely. Maybe I need to put the bow further from the knee, closer to the butt.

sort of like this

The easiest way for me is to have the bow perpendicular to my legs and step through, one leg on the knee and the other at the handle inner limb of the same limb. And just pull. But that bends the limb in contact with my legs more than the other. I think the best way I know of so far is to put a leg on the knee and the other on the handle or arrow pass area, and step through. But it feels more unstable... and Ronald warns against putting one leg in the handle, though he's stringing askew.

hope this helps understanding for someone somehow

I personally use the cross leg sitting method but I am not sure if I do it perfectly. I believe that is the best method atleast for me if I am alone. One way you can string a bow if you have an additional individual with you to help is to sit down and put the bow across both of your knees (with one side of string already on) and the other person holds the other side of the string. Then you pull both limbs back while holding the one side of the string thats already on in place and the other person slides the other side on. I forgot where I learned the method maybe on one of the horn bow websites from a seller (maybe saluki website). But, that is a good safe to not twist limbs if you got the help.

Thumbs up +1

yeah there's I think a few ways of doing that one - knees on each of the fades (inner limbs), doing it like the cross legged method, or I think I used to just put one knee at the handle belly side. But that'd be more unstable. I think with the stiff loops that Turkish strings apparently had sometimes, it is possible to string with this method when alone. buut huh... watching it, it may work with more flexible loops too.

Yea that videos method looks good too. I do like the crossleg sitting down the most though, it feels more stable to me and I will continue doing it myself. Thanks for posting all those videos they may be helpful to some since so many methods.

Who cares? You're still not bending the limb anywhere near as much as when you shoot it. Don't worry about it, Koreans have been using the step through method for as long as they've been using FRP bows

yeah... even with a hornbow, it can be balanced right after it's strung
