Re: Bow string

maybe what I tied was a granny knot haha (square knot done wrong, slips more)
Wish there was a better way than square or zeppelin.. maybe a surgeon's knot, maybe with a tad of thin ca glue

shot my string in today maybe 10 times, snappy. 10 strand d97

Re: Bow string

d97 gold string (10 strands, 14 strand loops) with diamondback serving.
Twisted counter-clockwise. Right handed shooter. I like the gold..

edit: Guess the knot should sit a bit lower than shown here, to about the middle of the bridge is probably good for a quieter shot and less twisting.

That gold string looks great I may have to invest in that color since I have yet to decide which I would get.

Thumbs up +1

Re: Bow string

Pedro I know you already have made some strings and seem to be doing good with the technique, I myself won't be able to try until the end of December. But anyway, check this video out that I found its pretty good, and it actually shows the initial steps which the other two videos don't show.

Re: Bow string

Thanks

He uses 28 strands there for the center of the string... and 24 for the loops, I assume so that they can be more twisted than the string. I find it difficult to keep the strands at the same tension/length. Hmm. Maybe I shouldn't try too hard for that

I'm not sure if the strands should be overlapping while being wrapped in the part before 5:40 or wrapped, or the strands neatly next to each other, maybe something in between is best

I think what he does with the square knot may be the best way to go on about it, for the loose ends of the center string

edit: with a rather thin string (that's still too thick for those easton nocks ... ...) twisting moderately doesn't shorten it that much. I should've gone with 95cm for the center section rather than 96cm, I guess 1cm can make a 1/4" or even 1/2" difference in brace height? :\

It's really a headache to do this... easy to mess something up when tightening the loops and such. I pulled on the tag ends (trying to tighten the square knot after tying the loop over it) on my 2nd attempt today, and it screwed up the strands on the center string, I guess it loosened somehow.

I guess my loops should've been more twisted too... on my third attempt, which should be a functioning string.

Re: Bow string

I made a string. The shooting was loud. Should've made it a bit shorter too, though the brace height was correct for the usual Korean one of ~5.5", I just want a little more for no-khatra shooting.
I will have to make a new one, and avoid putting CA glue on the knots because I think that makes them hard, so they make a noise when they hit the string bridge. Other than that, I don't know why it was so loud. Maybe too much twisting in the string. And/or the arrow hitting the bow? idk

I need to make some slow motion videos.
