Topic: Types of Target for Bodkin tipped Arrows

What type of targets do you guys recommend for receiving the impact of bodkin tipped arrows?  Straw type?  And where to get them?  If long bodkins hit solid metal or rock, the slender tips could easily bend or break.  Thanks!

It's hard to say.  However, one thing I'll mention is that bodkins will completely pierce thirty layers of ballistic Kevlar.

Thomas, do you still have photos of the penetration test you did with the bodkin tipped arrows?

It was part of a comparison test I was doing with thirty layers of cotton (Korean cotton armor).

Here are a few.

You will notice that I had also shot the Kevlar with a variety of firearms; besides the bodkin, a Japanese 7.7mm Arisaka round was one of the few to penetrate it.

Here is a .45-70 round from an 1873 Springfield trapdoor rifle, which penetrated a few layers:

Impressive!

Maybe this straw plate and a bale of hay behind will do the job?  http://felszerelesek.lovasijaszat.hu/fe … amp;lang=2
