Topic: Do you write your name on your bows?

This may be a silly question, but I was wondering if there was any tradition to write your name on a bow in Korea (or elsewhere, like Europe).

It seems like if there are lots of them of a similar style, there could be some confusion as to which bow is which.

What about modern bows? Do people mark them at all?

Do any of you write your name on your bows?

Re: Do you write your name on your bows?

Some people do put their names on their bows, especially as there are only a few companies in Korea that make most of the bows, so it would be easy to mix them up.  The order is archery nickname/personal name.  For instance, my nickname is (can you guess?) "bluelake" (cheongho/청호/靑湖) and the Korean name I was given many years ago is "Dahm Do-seong" (담도성/潭道成), so, it is on my bow as follows:

I don't have an archery nickname yet unfortunately.  sad

What do you use to write your name on the bow, and is it always in Hanja?

Well, you need to have a "molgi" (perfect score) before you receive a nickname in KTA, so there's time  smile

Some people use a paint marker or similar; I used a tape labeler (I think mine was made by Brother).

I see people put their name in either hangeul or hanja.

That's what I thought when I first started Korean trad--however, it was less than two months before I made the grade.

You put the name on the lower limb, just below the handle.
