Nice to see you join us here Angelus  tongue

I've seen arguments on both sides of semihorn vs carbon.

By my way of thinking, both bows are backed by carbon so whatever's on the belly can't affect the bow too much and horn is heavier than carbon so I would think carbon shoots a little faster..

But in any case the semihorn is plenty fast, I initially shot 8gpp arrows but the shots were so fast that they were difficult to follow with the eyes so I switched to 11gpp arrows and it's still one of the fastest bows at my club.

The only significant difference is the price and appearance. You have to ask yourself if the slightly more authentic look is worth ~$80 to you

How are they attached to the shaft? I thought they were screw in points so you could just screw in broadheads instead

Do you mean these? http://www.koreanarchery.org/IMG_0288.JPG
If they're solid, they'll weigh quite a bit, probably 100gr. Brass is heavy after all

I have similar size/shaped points on my arrows and they're 160gr

You don't need to change the feathers. You need to find broadheads that weigh the same as your arrow points or your spine will be off. So first step is measuring the points.

My SMG horn laminate also has both siyahs bent slightly towards the right

Welcome welcome

Nothing too interesting on your bow I'm afraid, first and third picture is the same, says gaya goong (Kaya bow) in chinese characters, the 2nd picture says longlong bow, long bow, medium bow, short bow. So it just means you have a 45 pound medium bow

Looks to me like this one http://www.cinnabarbow.com/marinerbows/quivers.html

Any update on these arrows' availability/price?

The 3riversarchery arrow chart has different columns for arrow point weight. On the Easton I think they just assume 100gr point

Are you drawing to the back of your head/shoulder? KTB draw weight is measured at 31" so at 27" you're drawing more like 22#

According to this arrow chart https://www.3riversarchery.com/pdf/ArrowCharts.pdf 1916 aluminium shafts 30" long with 100gr points is suited more for 36~45# bows.

So the arrows are way too stiff for your bow. Also because thumb release is cleaner/oscillates the arrow less than fingers you arguably need an even softer arrow. While thumb technique can compensate for spine mis match to some degree, shooting arrows twice as stiff as required isn't going to go well.

Try drawing farther if you can, draw slowly until you feel the 'collar' between the arrow shaft and point on your thumb. Increasing from 22#@27" to 30#@31" is like increasing the energy in your bow by 50% so is well worth doing.

If after drawing as far as you can the arrows still feel too stiff you can try putting on heavier arrow points to soften the arrow spine.

What's your draw length?

It's difficult to say without seeing in person but the feather shouldn't be touching your hand at all. As for hitting your bow, it's possible the arrows aren't spine matched for your bow

Raise your nocking point, bluelake suggests nocking 1.5 inches above the top of the grip and that works for me

Definitely draw farther. Ideally draw until you almost feel the point on your thumb. This is safer with longer points, not sure what points your arrow has.

Also you should hold the bow slightly turned away from you (so there's a larger than necessary gap between the bowstring and your forearm). This twists the bow when you shoot and helps the arrow avoid hitting the bow.

Black. Don't pay too much attention to Turkish/Persian/Mughal way of shooting, they have slightly different thumb rings that allow you to shoot from the 'white' spot

Just keep in mind they're also blunt tipped so they won't stick into targets..

The strings that come with the bows are very thick and don't fit 'regular' arrow nocks, you'll either have to buy korean arrows (SMG sells decent enough carbon ones for $10 and you won't have to worry about arrow spine) or try to widen arrow nocks or get a new thinner string.

They do sell thumb rings, you can find them under ETC or 화살/깍지/가방
They sell various types of horn rings as well as a set of plastic thumb rings in various sizes ($20 for 8 rings I believe)

($160 )Beginner's bow is only available in weights lower than 20lb so is really only suitable for children
($200) Artificial horn is fibreglass and is a decent bow
($250) Carbon is a bit better in terms of arrow speed
($330) Horn performs similarly to the other two bows but mostly it looks nicer/more authentic

Prices are listed as I last heard, prices may be different now. What bow you pick is really up to you to decide how much you're willing to spend vs how nice a bow you want etc

Arm protection you don't need, if your brace height is alright you'll never hit your arm. Not sure what finger protection is, is it for bow or string hand? Either way it isn't necessary, just optional.

I recommend SMG, you get best value for your money.
If you speak Korean you can order through them directly http://www.smgung.co.kr/
..or order through Mechwar http://www.koreanarchery.org/punbb/profile.php?id=7
..or through his website http://www.archers.co.kr/

Yup, all home made. Here's another one I made for someone with a Bear Super Grizzly (designed to grip the bow grip/handle) instead because the bow's limbs have no reflex to grip on.

The length of your thumb doesn't matter, you need to be measuring the width. What website are you looking at?

Yeah and we talked about them before remember? tongue

I have suede and padding holding the arrows in (fits 6 arrows in the main quiver). It's actually a little too tight and I'm hoping it'll loosen some with use

Bow's an SMG laminated horn

Hey guys just want to show off my first leather project smile Korean style inspired, but very simple design
