Last September I tried to order SMG horn laminated in 50# but nothing in the range was available so I bought a 50# carbon instead. It's my third bow after 30# Kaya KTB, 40# SMG artificial horn, this 50#carbon is very fast and impressive. I heard from a few people who own or tried SMG horn laminated that it is more superior than carbon bow and if it is available in the draw weight that I want, I should get it. May be some day smile

I felt the overall feel and look of the SMG carbon I had was similar to a Hwarang for the most part.  So if you owned a Hwarang then you have a decent reference point for how the SMG is going to be like.

I don't have pictures anymore of the one I used to own.  Can't comment on feel though when compared to the artificial SMG since I never owned or shot one.

Thanks for the answer geoarcher, I  only have artificial SMG and Kaya. I've never own a Hwarang (YMG if that's what you mean) though but that's a good start to look for. So far I've been able to find this pic which I can't tell for sure if it's round or flat but looks like it's round. http://tonygt19.smugmug.com/Archery/Dyn … =1&s=A Please chime in guys.

Hi guys, I've owned a 40# artificial horn SMG for about a year and I want an upgrade so I'm looking into a 50# horn laminated SMG. Although it seems that this particular bow is out of stock even at 55# so I'm thinking that I might have to give up on it for now. I might eventually switch to a 50# carbon SMG instead but I have not seen  any clear picture of the bow belly so I don't know if it's round like the artificial horn one or flat like Kaya bow. Can anyone please show the belly?

As for the draw feeling, if I prefer the smooth feeling of the artificial horn SMG, will the carbon bow be much difference? I also have a lighter Kaya bow but I don't like the feeling of drawing that one compare to the artificial horn.

I pick a finger-size twig of local wood(Duranta erecta) and work from there so I have a blank with circular grain. I wanted to try several other woods but I figured the grain will become parallel and I have to be more careful when cutting nock grooves. With a twig with circular grain I can just cut it in any direction and it will be just fine.

I wonder if Acacia pennata can be used for making nocks. I have a few and still in process of drying. it's a white wood with very fine grain. Until it's dried completely I will have to make do with what I have. If it works I'll be delighted since I can buy them in a bunch and most are relatively straight and they come is the size I need too.

When I travel with airplane and want to bring my bow with me, I use compound bow case. It might seems overkill but you can secure your bow plus arrow tube will fit inside with a velcro strap. Look for a case that lets you use 2 padlocks on both ends so no one can try to pry open on the side. You might have some rooms left so that you can pack some cloths in there as well.

I made a few bamboo nock blanks for my bamboo shaft since I figured I could fix some of the broken nocks. It worked great, even better than my other bamboo arrow with plastic nocks. But now I found a hardwood and I started making some of the wooden inserts for nocks. So far I finished 2 arrows with these new nocks but haven't tested it out at the range yet. They take quite a while make.

Ok, the bow arrive yesterday safely and nicely packed. Thank you Mechwar for assisting in the buy. Went out to the range today and shot for about and hour and a half. Compare to my Kaya KTB 30#, the Kaya is very easy to draw for the first half but start to feel heavier near 30" and I hit the wall at around 32-32.5". This is also true with my friend's Kaya 40# and 45# as they draw nicely for the first half and stack badly toward the max draw length. The 40# artificial horn SMG begin to draw heavier but have similar draw weight all the way to about 32" which I find that I like more than the Kaya. the bamboo arrows I have are 400+grains and they fly nice and flat. I will try the bow scale and plot the force draw curve for this bow compare to the Kaya if I have a chance but right now I feel the SMG have a much flatter curve.

Hello, I have recently purchased a 40#smg artificial horn bow but still waiting for it to ship. I've read on this forum that many owners say it is a pleasant bow to shoot but there is one thread that mention 6 out of 10 such bow broke. I wonder why they fail while many owners love them. Can it be because of bad treatment or just a defective lot. I'm using 30# Kaya KTB I got a few months ago and my draw length is 32 inches. I really look forward to try this bow.
