A couple of months ago my wife asked me if I could have any bow what would it be; I told her a Korean Horn Bow.  Yesterday was my Birthday and guess what?  I had a short box with a tube attached to it from YMG.  She did well...the bow, the splints for stringing and 6 bamboo arrows.  I only need the hot plate.  I have three other composite bows-that I have been my training ground for bracing a Korean Horn bow.  Can't wait to get her all braced and shooting.

Beautiful bow,I am anxious to hear your review of it compared to your composite bows. What draw weight did you get?

quote=goofy]I'm looking at going from recurve to Korean bow I have not shot much for the last year and my recurve is 30lb I have a 27 1/4 draw length.
My question is I'm looking at a kaya ktb or if I can find one a Firefox what sort of lb should I look at, can't find any one near where I live to try one.
Looking at trying thumb ring off the thumb.

Checkout garysarchery70 on Ebay. He has a good selection of KTB's. I have a simlmilar draw to yours and with a thumb ring draw 31".I purchased a 55 lb a few years ago and it took me a while to be able to draw it fully.Eventually I was able to draw it comfortably.Make sure you get your thumb-ring fitted well or you will be hurting.I really like the bow and I also purchased a Hwarang 55' about a year later. Both excellent bows.

Hello all I'm a new shooter to Traditional Korean Archery.  I need some help on my draw and anchor point.  I don't think I have any consistency at this point and I feel like the bow is stacking pretty fierce when I try to draw it back to my ear like I see in some photos of Korean Archers.

Hi Scarecrow,welcome .
When I first acquired my KTB(55#@31")a couple years ago I also felt that it was stacking.I hadn't shoot a bow for some years but my normal draw was about 27-28".After continuing to shoot it, I eventually was able to achieve a full 31" draw.I measured the draw weight and it was 56#@31".I hate to admit it but the only thing that was stacking was the shooter :-).You may be experiencing a similar phenomena.
Just keep shooting and enjoy it.

Will,
It seems my complete reply did not get entered. The bows both measure 56#@31".I measured them in 1"increments from 18" to 31".They are virtually identical. The KTB measures 41# @26"and47#@ 28"while the Hwarang measure 40# and 47# respectively.I hope this helps.

Nice pictures! Great range! It is every archers dream.

I am on my third generation thumb ring and believe it is as good as it will get for me.I have also grown some callouses  on my thumb.Even so,with my 55# draw weight I find that after shooting 15-20 arrows in succession my thumb starts telling me that it has had enough for the time being.I recently discovered that by applying a piece of !" wide fabric medical adhesive tape to my thumb under the thumb ring I can comfortably shoot 50 or more  arrows(or until my arms get tired). The tape is placed about 1/4" before the thumbs midpoint and extends to the thumbs tip.It has enough friction that it prevents the thumb ring from shifting at all even with sweaty hands.
I had been thinking about fabricating a sugakji until i tried this.

I have had a Kaya KTB 55#@31" for about five months now and have recently quantified it's performance.I have shot three or four thousand arrows from it.The draw weight measured 56#@31" when I received it and it still measures the same.Last week I had the opportunity to shoot a couple of long range shots from it.I shot a 440 gr. arrow from it at an angle of about 45 deg. and it traveled 220 yards. One shot at about 30 deg. traveled about 195 yards.I also shot a few 430 gr.arrows through a chronograph and the velocity ranged from 199fps-205fps. I have left the bow strung for a couple weeks at a time and this seems to have no detrimental effect on it. All in all this seems like pretty respectable performance to me.
