Gukgung,

Since you are in BC as well the shipping should be about the same. What is the charge for shipping of your arrows and how many did you order? I would be very happy if I could get built arrows for $4 bucks an arrow.

Send Mike a note and he will tell you exactly how much it will cost. I did a mix and match of broadheads and field points so the prices won't be exact --- 50 arrows --- cost was just under $300. Around 5.86 per arrow if you average it out.  If you increase the number of arrows the shipping cost per arrow goes down.

How did you order from oulay?
I tried a month or so ago, still yet to any sort of response.

Isa

I talked with Mike -- mikelin@oulay.com
My funds got kinda scarce so I have the order on hold for now. $3.95 per arrow with field point plus shipping. Shafts with nock only were $1 each plus shipping.
Hope that helps

Sorry for late reply. just recover from laptop damage.
55-60 rating is doing ok for my #50 SMG bow
I do not think they have complete arrows for you as they are bamboo dealer.
The only drawback is their nodes are not perfectly match. Although one node at the nocking end but the others are not aligned.
If you dont want a lot of arrows, my friend bought complete arrows from http://www.chinabambooarrow.com/en/f/Im … father.jpg and nodes are perfectly match.

Hope your laptop is fixed now. That looks like a pretty good site, ill have to check it out more.  Oulay has some arrows and heads but we will have to see how they shoot. http://www.oulay.com/product.asp?classid=16&kkk=14
This link shows the arrows
Thanks

Those look pretty nice! How have they worked out for you? Any breakage problems? Did they give you a spine rating or a bow weight rating? I'm looking at ordering some completed arrows with target points and some with broad heads. Any recommendations ? I shoot a 55 and 60# SMG bow.

Hello all I'm a new shooter to Traditional Korean Archery.  I need some help on my draw and anchor point.  I don't think I have any consistency at this point and I feel like the bow is stacking pretty fierce when I try to draw it back to my ear like I see in some photos of Korean Archers.

First off Welcome to the site!!! Secondly what type of bow do you have and what is your Western draw length and unusual anchor point?

I really enjoyed reading your presentation, thanks for posting it!!

Welcome tweaks,
I hope you are not too disappointed, as Mattia has already said, they need to be very precise. Again, a leather ring is not only easy to make, it will also be much easier to use ( I only use leather ones)
I would advise you to try with a leather ring anyway, before giving a solid type a go.

Has anyone ever tried to make a thumb ring from antler ? I'm looking at trying to use a piece of either moose or elk....anyone tried this yet?

Is the look/pattern still the same on the back of the bow? I think the "look" was important to this young lady?

Good morning Bluelake, are the prices on this link still valid and does Kaya make a lighter bow? My friend would like to get his daughter a nice lite bow around the #20-#25 range. She is just turning 15 and has been trying to get into archery for awhile and my wife's #27 Kaya really caught her eye. Let me know.
Thanks

I don't see a section for new member introductions so I'll just start here...
I was actually a (quiet) member of the goongdo yahoogroups mailing list for some time, but never really participated in much... I don't even know if that group is still active, since I don't use the email address I had anymore.
I am currently in Colorado, but getting ready to move back to Alaska in a couple of weeks, and I am looking forward to having the time and opportunity to get myself back into archery, and to get my kids introduced to the sport.
I have been interested in Korean archery for a while, in asiatic archery in general, really, but the Hwarang bows have really been calling my name lately, for some reason.
I'm planning to pick up a couple of bows, probably Samick or Kaya, for practice and for the kids, and I'm also considering a Hwarang bow in a heavier draw weight for hunting. The area I'll be moving to is bow-only for big game... which in Alaska is mosquitos and up.
Anyways, I thought I'd join the form and introduce myself... I'll be picking brains and making a general pest of myself with questions for a while. It looks like there is a lot of great experience and information to be gleaned here.

Cheers!

Dan

Hey Dan so how did the move to Alaska go? Have you been able to do any hunting with a traditional Korean Bow yet? I'd love to hear how that's going!

Warbow how did those SMG hunting arrows work for you and what weight of a bow were you using? From the sounds of other posts you seem to shoot a heavy bow, were the spines the right stiffness ? I'm looking at ordering some for my #55 & #60 bows.

Thank you Mechwar for hooking me up with the bamboo koryo bow. It took many months but I finally just got it! It is amazing to draw, I could not get my hands on the partial horn bow, but hope to soon one day... Also the bow and arrow quivers you made for me were just amazing. Guys, please check out Mr.Yun (mechwar)'s facebook page and you can get some amazing leather bow and arrow quivers from him, they are just amazing to say the least! And he will custom make it to your color/design preferences, just awesome all around. Thank you again sir!

Trident what weight of a Bamboo Belly Bow did you get and how do you like it? Any problems, I'm about to order one.

Hi there!
I live in Denmark and have been shooting the longbow for some years.
I make most my equipment myself and hope some day to be able to post a hornbow of some sort, preferably I'll make a korean style bow, but this will likely take loong time before I will take that challenge.
I work as a physiotherapist and archery as well as the making of bows and accessories is really a sort of meditation to me.
See ya around  smile

Sounds like a full life, glad to have you on board!!!

The only time I had a limb issue with the Hwarang bow was when the bowyer accidentally sent me a Korean-market bow, instead of an international-market bow (Korean-market bows are tillered a little to the arrow side of the bow, while the int'l-market bows are center-strung).  I wonder if your bow might not be a similar case...  Still, it is true that you, once in a while, get a defective bow.  However, in the case of the bows I sell, I check them out as much as possible before shipping.

Bluelake,
I am going to be ordering a bow from SMG in the near future, will I need to specify that the bow be center strung and not right tillered? If so what is the Korean Term for "centre strung" or do I just need to specify that the bow should be an international market bow. I will have a Korean speaking family member ordering it for me, so the Korean terms would be helpful.
Thanks again.

I seem to remember it's the choice of the archer whether the specified weight is measured at 28" or 31".

But wouldn't the bowyer specify the weight at what draw length...he would need that spec in mind as he makes the bow wouldn't he?

The draw weight is suppose to happen at 28" draw but often it happens closer to 29".

Hwarang bows rated @28" can be drawn to thumb ring draw length.  However, the draw weight will also increase.

In reading the material on the SMG site it isn't clear at what draw length the the bow's pull weight  is referring to....is it assumed to be the standard 33" draw?

Thank you Warbow, I have had that question for awhile, and I'm glad I finally had some place to get it answered.  smile
