You could try wrapping the limbs with some silk or similar type of material.

Ive seen it poorly done by dipping the silk in an epoxy, and then, wrapping the bow.

Like I said it was poorly done when I saw it, and the bowyer is less than, but it might work with the right person doing it.

Now I know! Thank you for the explanation.

It makes sense now that I understand.

Thank you,

Hello everyone,

I was looking for some videos on form and technique and just came across this video with a gentleman who has a string tied to his arrow, and that is connected to something that makes a horrible noise....

Does this string act as a leash? So that the arrow does not go too far?

I just can't imagine why you would have that with all of those beautiful archery ranges in Korea, but maybe its for beginners?

Watch this and let me know what you think..

What is the cause of the birch coming off? How old is the bow? Is it due to rain or weather?

Can you post some pics of this misterwonky?

Thomas, what would be the best way for a guy to protect a new bow from such a thing happening?

I know its natural material, but I would like to make it last as long as possible on my bow.

Bow is sold....!

Im trying to get some photos added, but unable to.
Please, if you would like any, please send me your email address and I can email them to you.

Thank you,

Alright, I know this is a stretch, but I thought I would give it a try anyway.

I've got a like brand new 68" Longbow that I would like to sell or trade for a Hwarang or SMG.

Preferably the bow would be over 55@28 but might consider something a little lighter.

I would like to get at least 400.00 USD out of it. Here is a description of the bow.

I have a beautifully made BamaBows Royal that has:
5 Lams of bamboo
Osage veneers
Osage riser
Water buffalo horn riser overlay
Water buffalo horn tip overlays
High Gloss finish
This bow is over 900.00 dollars new, and does not have a mark or blemish on it. It will come with a fast flight string. The bow draws incredibly smooth for the weight and I will include 3 heavy spined exotic wood arrows with it. A great bow to work out with. A man will be surprised how short a time it takes to build up to this weight. If it is not as I describe then send it back for a refund minus the shipping. The bow will be shipped in a PVC tube, fully insured, and tracking number. If you have any questions, please email me at joseph.garvon@gmail.com or call at 616-666- 0823. Will consider a trade, with cash if needed, for a heavier Hwarang, Saluki shelfless bow, huntworthy shelfless bow, or perhaps a trade for a Mariner shelfless bow. Will consider what you have. Thanks, Joe

Katherine,
You are not going to get a better bow for the price than the KTB.......unless you find a used YMG Hwarang!!

I've had two, and both of them were great shooting little bows for the investment, and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

As was mentioned, the Hwarang is a better bow, but if you are looking to just get your toes wet for now, the KTB is a good choice.

Let us know what you decide.

I know some of you have had some experience with the kaya windfighter. Im thinking about purchasing one, and really would like to get an honest opinion from experience about the bow.....performance, tiller, fit and finish.etc.

thank you in advance,

Joseph

Zdogk9 is a good guy to deal with. Im sure the bow is just as he states. Good Price that includes shipping.

Seems I forgot to put a price on this. It is still for sale, $230 TYD, I've less than 100 arrows fired with it. I changed internet providers and forgot my password to get on this site hence the lack of communication.

So have I Thomas. These are magnificent and transferring energy into an arrow. Lukas makes a wonderful bow and many comparisons can be made, and the likes and dislikes of each archery differ, but in regards to energy and speed, its hard to compete with the Korean traditional bow.

Im assuming he sold it?

Thank you Warbow and Bluelake......I was pretty sure. I think some people just assume that what is true of western style recurves or longbows apply to the Korean bow.

(17 replies, posted in Hwarang Bows)

I thought that I knew this for sure, but am humble enough to ask before assuming.

Is or was the hwarang ever built with just a 28" draw length in mind?

For example, if one ordered a Hwarang at 50@28 would it be dangerous or detrimental to draw the bow to 32-33 inches?

I know some mediteranean shooter probably would order the Hwarang with a 28 inch draw length in mind. But I was never aware that a bow would be built not to be drawn to the traditional draw lengths?

Thanks,

Joseph

That is a nice bow for sure.

Please, a little comparison with the Hwarang and the Grozer?

So are we going to get any demos or any critique as to how the bow shoots?

Please, let us see your bow. Looking forward to the photos.

So did anybody get their bows yet? I would love to know how they turned out......and how they perform.

Please keep us updated, so that I can live a little vicariously through you.

Hogar,
Wonderful bow. You did a great job with the lines. Did you let the bow air dry or did you put in a hot box?

It was so funny to see that "buy it now" price. I knew it was just laminated, but never saw one like that. I was hoping it was a unique find.

Thank you Thomas,

Joseph

At what point are you measuring brace height? Those figures of six to six and a half do sound odd.
Measured to the belly, directly above the grip, mine is only slightly over five and a quarter inches. The string would be twisted like a rope to achieve six, even at five and a half the string is over twisted.

Hun,
Is it through experimenting that you came to that brace height? Or was it from the manufacturer? Either way is good, I just at times have used a little higher brace height, like 5.5-5.75 inches, and got very comparable results.......that might be due to the shooter though.  big_smile

I've always like the idea of using as high a brace height as possible, without sacrificing performance too much, so as to become as accurate as possible. In the past it has always been my impression that a little higher brace height provides a little more forgiveness when it comes to accuracy.

Perhaps this is not the best approach when shooting the Korean Traditional?

I saw this on ebay while looking at trident's koryo....................does anybody know anything about it?
A bit of communication barrier with the seller. I asked him the draw weight and he told me 5 lbs? hmm

I have never seen one like this.

I am putting together a group purchase for heavy-weight Hwarang bows (with real bark).  Our group need one more person to make the purchase possible.  Anyone interested in a 90# to 100# Hwarang bow?

Honestly fellas, when I read that a group purchase would be made, then I was hoping the price would be near a 100.00 US dollars less because of a group rate.

That being said, I have a bow on order from Justin Ma and a bow due at anytime from Lukas Novotny. So this is a little out of reach for me now.

I apologize if this causes any inconvenience.

sincerely,
