Have fun!

I have a hard ring and a leather one, I can get about three shots in a row with my leather one before I have to switch. I haven't devoted a pile of time getting used to my leather ring but I find I shoot a little better with it than I do with my hard ring.

I would say the green line is where the placement will be and your thumb will bend more with leather than horn as the horn is thicker and not flexible.

Thanks fella's

Tony can you explain to me what you mean by true recureve(no siyahs). Sorry to derail this but I would like to know the difference.

Thanks
Chad

Katherine,

Buy changing the wrap Bluelake means the company is supposed to be changing it to a more natural look, it doesn't need to be changed by the owner. Shooting three fingers is possible(lots of finger pinch) but because of the length of the bow a thumb draw would be better. It has been a bit of a transition changing to a thumb ring for me but things are slowly coming together. I've been shooting with a thumb ring since Christmas.

I just received arrows from Oulay. I ordered 30 finished arrows, 15 for me and 15 for a friend and 30 bare shafts. Shipped with customs tax it came to just under $300 Canadian and took 17 days to get here from China.

I am anxious to shoot them when I get a chance. I shot a couple and they seemed to fly all over but that was likely me. I have learned my draw length is 32" though.

I can shoot my 65lb recurve all day so it would just be a matter of getting used to shooting the weight with a thumb draw. My wife on the other hand says no go. I tried to convince her that she could shoot my KTB but she still said no.

You seem to have quite a collection of bows.

Chad

Wow, maybe a year from now I could take you up on this but I don't think my wife would go for it at this time. I don't even know if I could draw it but it sure would be fun to shoot.

Gukgung,

Since you are in BC as well the shipping should be about the same. What is the charge for shipping of your arrows and how many did you order? I would be very happy if I could get built arrows for $4 bucks an arrow.

I am struggling to find a sight picture. Sometimes I see exactly where my arrow is going to go, but most of the time that is not the case. When shooting do you see your target on the arrow side or the other. Once I figure this out I think I should be able to start improving a lot faster than I am.

I am hitting about 30% from 18m with my KTB, yesterday I got frustrated and shot a few arrows with my recurve and hit about 85% so I know I have the ability to improve.

Thanks for any help!

I think a big difference for me has been shooting on the off side and off centre as compared to my recurve. I shoot left handed and if I was to pick up my recurve today my arrows would go wide to the right. It takes me less shot to correct with my recurve but I have also been shooting it for alot longer.

No problem, I'm gonna get this F'n thing figured out and kill and elk this fall so criticism is welcome.

My knock is/was high. I have corrected it since the weekend. My thumb was sliding up the string as I was getting ready to draw. I have changed it so my thumb doesn't touch the arrow at all, well not before the bow is drawn anyhow. There is some pics of me at full draw in this thread.

Here is another pic. I broke this arrow on a rock, I shot just under the belly of the target I was shooting at.

After some reading I came across a big 3d guy in the states and he only suggested shooting one arrow at a time. I shoot then retrieve my arrow and go again where before I would shoot 10-12 retrieve and do it again. This method doesn't allow me to compensate for missed shots but rather take every shot individually. Because of the lack of arrows shot I think I have a better understanding of my ability and am confident I can be ready to hunt come fall. After tonight I learned I am not as good as I thought I was but also not nearly as bad as I thought after yesterday. I hit about 30% of shots tonight but I had less bad shots than normal as well.

In the last week or so I seem to be getting worse. After today at a shoot I could almost give up! I really hope this is something I am going to climb out of.

Well the two courses we did were quite tough. There was lots of lost arrows by everybody. I lost two on the first two targets and broke another later on. I must say I left the day much less confident than I was before and I definitely need to change the way I practice. I think I am going to try and only shoot one arrow at a time instead of 10 then doing it over for a hundred.

Getting stronger will help your accuracy in the end. The less you have to worry about draw strength the more you can concentrate on target. There is a million different opinions on what one should do for fitness but the fact remains that the only one that works is the one you do.

Alxx I would recommend doing unsupported bent over rows as well. This will help strengthen you lower back and abs as well as the muscles used for drawing a bow.

I noticed today that if I draw below my chin I feel the string on my chest but if I draw to the base of my ear which I was doing before there seems to be plenty of room. Maybe that is why you are hitting your chest. I have seen both pics of people with an eye level draw and people with there draw well below there chins. Keep in mind that shooting 149m would likely cause you draw draw lower than closer distances, I hope that made sense.

A question of my own, how do I stop cutting the first knuckle on my thumb with the fletchings on my arrow? Or do I just wait for the callus that will soon form?
